Del. man killed car ran light in Delmar SNB

July 23, 1991

A 63-year-old Delaware man was killed yesterday in Delmar at the Maryland-Delaware border when he apparently ran a red light and a truck struck his car broadside, state police said.

John Franklin Cooper was driving his 1985 Buick LeSabre east on Route 54 when he apparently ran the red light at the intersection of U.S. 13 at 1:15 p.m., said Cpl. F. L. White. A Kenilworth truck driven by Nathaniel Turner, 40, of Greenbush, Va., was traveling south on U.S. 13 and hit Mr. Cooper's car on the driver's side.

The two passengers in Mr. Cooper's car were injured. Wayne Franklin Cooper, 5, was in satisfactory condition, and Danny Lee Messick, 40, of Seaford, Del., was in critical condition last night at Peninsula General Hospital Medical Center, a hospital nursing supervisor said. Mr. Turner was not injured.
