Ostasewski Ends Training

Army Reserve Pvt. Michael L. Ostasewski, son of Charlene Sivert of Columbia, has completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

During the training, students received instruction in such areas as military courtesy, map reading and Army history and traditions.


Navy Ensign Mark A. Delahanty, son of Raymond and Barbara Delahanty of Sykesville, recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned in his present rank.

Delahanty, who received a bachelor's degree in computer science, is a 1987 graduate of South Carroll High School.


Marine Cpl. Ralph A. Moore, son of Sylvia and Ralph A. Moore Sr. of Columbia, recently returned from deployment to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Storm while serving with the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

A 1987 graduate of Howard High School, Moore joined the Marines Corps in September 1987.


Pvt. William E. Lee, son of Kenneth and Margaret Lee of Mount Airy, has completed the basic field artillery cannoneer course at Fort Sill, Okla.

Lee, a 1989 graduate of Linganore High School, was taught the duties of howitzer and gun section crewman and received instruction in communications, maintenance and the handling of ammunition and explosives.


Marine Pfc. Christopher W. Dixon, son of Barbara Dixon of Columbia, has been meritoriously promoted to his present rankon graduation from recruit training at Parris Island, S.C.

He received the early promotion for his performance during all phases of the 13-week training cycle.

Dixon is a 1986 graduate of Hammond HighSchool and a 1990 graduate of University of Maryland Baltimore County with a bachelor of arts degree.

He joined the Marine Corps Reserves in January 1990.


Navy Chief Petty Officer Rickard A. Long, son of Shirley and James Long of Ellicott City, has received his second Navy Achievement Medal for outstanding professional achievement while stationed aboard the USS Papago at Little Creek Amphibious Base, Norfolk, Va.

Long, who received his first Navy Achievement Medal in November 1987, is a 1975 graduate of Mount Hebron High School.


Kenneth S. Kim, son of Joon Sung and Hwa Bong Kim of Ellicott City, was commissioned a second lieutenant on graduation from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, and awarded a bachelor of science degree.

Kim is scheduled to attend training in the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas.


Pfc. Jennifer E. Bradley, daughterof Ronald and Iona Bradley of Ellicott City, has completed basic military police training at Fort McClellan, Anniston, Ala.

Bradley isa 1986 graduate of Howard High School.
