Annapolis Teen Wins Pageant

Erika Knutson, daughter of Missy and Bruce Knutson of Annapolis, wasnamed Miss Maryland American Teen at the annual state pageant July 6at Marriott Hotel in Linthicum. She will represent Maryland at the National Miss American Teen Pageant, Nov. 27 to Dec. 1 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tampa, Fla.

The pageant theme is "Youth -- Pride ofthe Present, Hope of the Future."

Erika competed against 59 contestants for the state title. Her winnings include a cash award, an official state crown, banner, trophy and travel expenses to the national pageant. She and one parent will join the other state winner and family members for a day in Disney World.

Erika's sponsors for the state pageant were: Brassell and Baldwin P.A.; Bert Spriggs Motor Sales; Dr. Toomey and Beekinshaw P.A.; Teen Club of Annapolis; Dr. Sam Libber; and family members.

State pageants take place nationwide for girls between the ages of 4 to 19 in four age groups: Miss American Princess (4 to 7), Preteen (8-12), Teen (13-16), and Coed (16-19). The pageant gives girls an opportunity to meet friends and perform on stage in front of an audience, developing self-confidence and poise. The pageant seeks to recognize younggirls for their past achievements and encourage them to set new goals.
