After yesterday's opening ceremonies, the Maryland State Games begin today. More than 1,500 athletes are expected to compete. The schedule:
7 a.m. -- Ice hockey, Piney Orchard Ice Arena; 8 a.m. -- Gymnastics, Fairland Athletic Complex; shooting, CCC. 8:30 a.m. -- Men's basketball, Towson Center; women's basketball, UMBC Fieldhouse; judo, Catonsville High gym. 9 a.m. -- Archery, UMBC driving range; badminton, Towson State Burdick Hall; bowling (tenpin and duckpin), Fair Lanes Rolling Road; fencing, UMBC student union ballroom; field hockey, St. Paul's School for Girls; jujitsu, Arbutus Middle School gym; lacrosse (men and women), UMBC; soccer, Cedar Lane Park; tennis, Catonsville CC; track and field, Catonsville CC; volleyball, Catonsville CC gym; weightlifting, Catonsville High auditorium. 10 a.m. -- Table tennis, UMBC Fieldhouse. 1 p.m. -- Swimming (masters), UMBC. 4 p.m. -- Speed skating, Piney Orchard Ice Arena.
