Delta may invest more to keep Pan Am flying

July 19, 1991|By Knight-Ridder News Service

MIAMI -- Just a week after agreeing to buy a large chunk of Pan American World Airways, Delta Air Lines is studying whether to invest even more to keep Pan Am flying.

Pan Am and Delta announced yesterday that they are discussing a plan for Delta and other airlines to invest enough money in Pan Am to allow the airline to continue as a Miami-based operation concentrating on its profitable Latin American routes.

But Delta was quick to caution that there is no assurance it will invest in Pan Am, which is operating under bankruptcy court protection.
