Rockville-based W. Bell & Co., which filed for Chapter 11 under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in December, said yesterday that it will close its 10 remaining catalog showrooms.
In the Baltimore area, W. Bell has stores in Woodlawn off Security Boulevard and in Cockeysville. At its peak, it had 20 showrooms in Texas, Maryland, Illinois, Virginia and Washington, D.C. It already has closed 10 showrooms this year, including one in downtown Baltimore.
The closings will put an end to a retailer founded 40 years ago by Washingtonians Dorothy and Walter Bell on the premise of offering consumers high-quality merchandise at low prices.
