Arthur Briggs, 92, an American whose trumpet helped define hTC jazz in Paris during six decades, died yesterday of a sudden kidney failure. Born in Charleston, S.C., Mr. Briggs arrived in Europe in 1919 as the post-World War I continent began to acquire a taste for the American music.
