Atlanta Braves -- Extended the contract of manager Bobby Cox (83-97 with Braves; 704-712 overall) for 2 years through the ++ 1993 season.

Minnesota Twins -- Signed 1B David McCarty.

Montreal Expos -- Activated OF Larry Walker from the 15-day DL. Sent P Doug Piatt (0-0, 3.07 ERA) to Class AAA Indianapolis.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Acquired OF-1B Cory Snyder (.198, 3 HRs, 11 RBI in 50 games) from the Chicago White Sox for minor-league OF Shawn Jeter (.264, 3 HRs and 26 RBI at Class AAA Syracuse) and a player to be named. Jeter is expected to report to Class AAA Vancouver.


Los Angeles Raiders -- Signed QB Todd Marinovich, drafted 24th overall, to a 3-year contract. Agreed to terms with RB Marcus Allen on a 1-year contract, P Jeff Gossett and PK Jeff Jaeger. Waived LB Ron Burton, RB Brian Sap, RB Sean Moore, WR Sean Smith, and OT Rob Flory. Placed TE Mike Dyal on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

New Orleans Saints -- Signed RB Fred McAffee, RB Anthony Wallace, TE Frank Wainright and G Mark Drabczak to 2-year contracts. Signed LB Scott Ross to a 3-year contract.

Phoenix Cardinals -- Signed TE Jerry Evans.

San Francisco 49ers -- Signed CB Darryl Pollard. Signed C Chuck Thomas, DE Larry Roberts and RB Spencer Tillman to 1-year contracts. Waived CB Pat McGuirk and DE Mike Sanfratello.

Washington Redskins -- Signed DL Nate Hill, DL Lee Johnson and LB Demetrius Douglas. Johnson and Hill played in the WLAF. Agreed to terms with TE Ken Whisenhunt and WR Stephen Hobbs.


Liverpool -- Paid a British-record $4.6 million to obtain Welsh F Dean Saunders from Derby County, which is relegated to the Second Division in the English League next season. Saunders will team with England national team defender Mark Wright, who moved from Derby to Liverpool 2 days ago for $3.5 million.
