John W. Bremer Lutheran pastor

July 12, 1991

Services for the Rev. John W. Bremer, a pastor emeritus of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, will be held at 7 p.m. today at the church, 4211 Vermont Ave.

Mr. Bremer, who was 51 and whose home was on Osborne Avenue in Catonsville, died Wednesday at the Summit Nursing Home there. He had been in a coma since being injured in a May 1, 1979, automobile accident.

He was pastor of the Baltimore church from 1977 until the accident, after serving Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregations in Greensboro, N.C., Lynchburg, Va., and Orchard Farm, Mo.

He was interested in music and other aspects of worship, and in community organizations opposing drug use and child abuse.

Born near Traverse City, Mich., he was reared there, then left to attend Concordia College in Milwaukee. He graduated from Concordia College in Fort Wayne, Ind., then Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1966, the year he was ordained.

He is survived by his wife, the former Linda Tharp; and two sons, Joel Andrew Bremer and Jason James Bremer, both of Catonsville.
