WESTMINSTER — Carroll County General Hospital plans to show the community this month two changes taking place: a new Psychiatric Unit and Cardiac Catheterization and Angiography labs.

Leading into the hospital's 30th anniversary celebration this fall, CCGH will sponsor two public events:

* "Taking Control of the Gremlins in Your Life," a free communitymental-health seminar, is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17. The speaker will be Registered Nurse Jan Watts, director of mental health services.

The hourlong session enables participants to identify stresses in adult lives and provides a framework for reducing them. The "gremlins" refer to worries that add to daily stresses.

There will be opportunity for questions.

* A Community Open House will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 29. While a string quartet plays, there will be displays, demonstrations and guided tours.

The first 50 guests will receive coupons for a free cholesterol check. Guests may also obtain "Stress Dots" for information on their stress levels. "Heart Healthy" refreshments will be featured.

Prizes -- some health-related -- are being donated by many area businesses.
