SYKESVILLE — Carroll County's Board of Zoning Appeals has approved a minimum front setback variance to allow the sign at Sykesville Federal Savings Association to be placed two feet from Liberty Road.

Usually, the variance for businesses is 40 feet from the road. However, the bank proved that moving the sign will increase traffic safety because cars will be able to see the bank sooner and signal their intent to turn into the driveway.

The bank's front lawn is not large enough to allow relocation under the current zoning regulations.

The appeals board said there isno indication moving the sign will adversely affect adjoining properties.
