Here's what to look for while traveling in the Baltimore area this week. Only new projects are listed, not ongoing construction, which is extensive on several highways, including Interstate 95, U.S. 50-301 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

New highway projects

The right lane of north U.S. 1 from Miller Road to Sheradale Drive will be closed 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow through Friday for road reconstruction.

Single lanes of Interstate 695 from Belair Road to Perring Parkway will be closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. tomorrow through Friday for bridge construction. Expect delays.

Traffic on Route 543 in Harford County will be one way in areas between Route 136 and Route 22 during road reconstruction.

Two lanes of Route 3 north will be closed 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning tomorrow to remove the Stewart Avenue bridge. One lane will remain open. After bridge removal, south lanes will be closed. Also, one lane of the ramp from Route 176 to Route 3 south will be closed until 6 a.m. July 15 to remove the bridge pier.

Light-rail construction

Lombard Street west of Howard Street will reopen 3 p.m. today. Primary detour: Traffic west on Lombard will proceed north on Charles Street to Fayette Street; west on Fayette to Greene Street; south on Greene to Lombard. Second detour: West traffic on Lombard will go north on Howard to Fayette; west on Fayette to Greene; south on Greene to Lombard.

Bus route changes:

The MTA has scheduled these changes in bus routes. For more information, call 539-5000; TTY for the hearing-impaired, 539-3497.

No. 23

Eastern Avenue and Eastern Boulevard between Stemmers Run Road and Mace Avenue will be closed today because of the Essex Recreation Council's Independence Day parade. Buses will follow the temporary route: westbound via regular route on Old Eastern to Stemmers Run, north on Stemmers Run, west on Marlyn Avenue, west on Myrth Avenue, south on Mace, west on Eastern, then via regular route; eastbound via regular route on Eastern to Mace, north on Mace, east on Myrth, north on Marlyn, south on Stemmers Run, east on Old Eastern, then via regular route.

Nos. 21, 210

Effective July 11, 13, 16, 18, 24 and 27, from 4 p.m. to midnight. Preston Street between Cathedral and Howard streets will be closed to all traffic because of Summerfest Festival.

No. 21 -- Westbound via regular route on Preston to Cathedral, north on Cathedral, northwest on Mount Royal Avenue, southwest on Dolphin Street, south on Howard, west on Dolphin, then via regular route. No change eastbound.

No. 210 -- Southbound via regular route to Preston and Cathedral, north on Cathedral, northwest on Mount Royal, southwest on Dolphin, south on Howard to Preston, then via regular route. No change northbound.

Temporary layover

The layover area on Warren Road will be moved temporarily east on Warren Road at Scott Adam Road because of construction.

Nos. 15, 23

NB Both lines will resume regular west routes on Saratoga Street.

Continuing diversions

Through 6 a.m. tomorrow, light-rail construction on Howard Street at Pratt Street necessitates these temporary routes:

No. 7 -- Eastbound via regular route south on Greene Street to Baltimore Street, east on Baltimore, south on Hopkins Place, east on Pratt, then via regular route. Westbound via regular route on Lombard to Charles Street, north on Charles, west on Fayette Street, north on Paca Street, then via regular route.

No. 31 -- Eastbound via regular route on Pratt to Paca, north on Paca, east on Baltimore, north on Charles, then via regular route. Westbound via regular route south on Liberty Street to Fayette, west on Fayette, south on Eutaw Street, west on Lombard, then via regular route.
