Sleeping on air is no pipe dream

July 07, 1991|By Knight-Ridder News Service

If you've got something to crow about, you might say you are "walking on air."

Somma Mattress Co., a Los Angeles manufacturer of flotation sleep systems, believes it has invented the next best thing: sleeping on air. It has developed a computerized air bed.

Dubbed the Sommaire, the new product was introduced at the spring furniture market at High Point, N.C. The air mattress is energized by a high-tech microcomputer module control unit that adjusts air into eight balanced and pressurized vinyl seamless cylinders. These support the body at a preset firmness.

The computerized control unit allows the sleeper to select any degree of firmness.

Cost of sleeping on air? Queen size: $1,099.

For information on where the Sommaire mattress is available, call Ron Ainsworth, vice president of sales, (800) 421-0250 any time.
