July 06, 1991

Darryl Dawkins, whose "Chocolate Thunder" dunk became more famous after he shattered a backboard in a game in 1979, is the celebrity judge for Colt 45's Thunder in the Streets Slam Dunk Challenge today at the basketball courts near the pool at Druid Hill Park.

Registration will begin at noon, and the dunk contest is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. All participants must be 21 years or older and must show proof of age to compete. Each contestant will be allowed two dunks, with the higher score of the two counted.

The first-place winner gets $1,045 and an all-expenses paid trip to the national Colt 45 dunk championships in Philadelphia on July 27. Second place is worth $545 and third place $245.

Dawkins also will demonstrate a few "Chocolate Thunder" dunks.
