Los Angeles Dodgers -- Fined IF Jeff Hamilton for missing Tuesday's game. Hamilton, placed on the 15-day DL on June 19, returned to his home in Flint, Mich., without the team's permission.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Placed P Darren Holmes and P Chris Bosio on the 15-day DL. Recalled P James Austin and P Jim Hunter from Class AAA Denver.

Montreal Expos -- Activated 1B Andres Galarraga from the 30-day DL. Optioned P Chris Haney (0-3, 5.06) to Class AAA Indianapolis.

San Francisco Giants -- Waived P Mike LaCoss (1-5, 7.23) for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. Purchased the contract of IF Darnell Coles (.329 at Class AAA Phoenix).

Toronto Blue Jays -- Claimed P Ephrain Valdez on waivers from the Cleveland Indians. Announced that Doug Ault will manage the Sydney Blues of the Australian Baseball League.


Chicago Bulls -- Fired Jim Durham, 18-year play-by-play voice for the club, who missed a June 28 deadline to accept the team's offer for a 4-year contract extension.


Loyola College -- Named Donna Seybold (fourth-leading scorer in Manhattan College history) assistant women's basketball coach.

North Florida -- Named Rich Zvosec men's basketball coach.

Temple -- Named Mike Hinnant assistant football coach.

Texas-El Paso -- Fired basketball coaches Rus Bradburd and Greg Lackey because, school officials said, they did not oversee players' athletic, social and academic lives.


Philadelphia Eagles -- Signed DL Mike Flores and DL Mike Renna.


Cremonese (Italian major league) -- Signed Uruguayan MF Ruben Pereira to a 3-year contract.
