In girls' softball, the Tangerine Machine 18 and Under Team is in Colorado for a couple weekends to play in a pair of highly regarded tournaments.

Tangerine Machine started last weekend (June 28-30) in the 25-team Colorado Classic at Fort Collins, Colo., and will move on to Boulder, Colo., for this weekend's 42-team Colorado Fireworks Invitational.

Coaches Jack Crandell, Tom Conley, Joe Kisser and George Votta left Wednesday with the girls for the Rocky Mountains.

"We are guaranteed seven games in each tournament, and this is a great way to get ready for the ASA Nationals and, at the same time, have a fun trip," said Conley. The ASA 18 & Under Nationals are coming to Maryland in August and will be played in Howard County.

In American Legion Baseball, Annapolis Post copped the Cambridge-South Dorchester Invitational over the weekend (June 28-29) by defeating Dallastown, Pa., 6-2 on Saturday and Funkstown Legion of the Hagerstown area by 8-zip Friday night.

Annapolis high school grad ShawnTipton, a 5-foot-10 lefthander, pitched Annapolis to victory over Dallastown, while Brendan Sullivan fired a one-hitter against Funkstown.

The pair of wins ran the Annapolis team's overall record to 22-2.
