Youth wanted in slaying surrenders to police

A 17-year-old charged as an adult with beating a man to death during a robbery Thursday morning in Patterson Park turned himself in to police yesterday afternoon, ending a two-day hunt for the second of two youths accused in the slaying.

Terry H. Ostrowski of the 1600 block of East Baltimore Street walked into the Southeastern District police station at 12:30 p.m., homicide Detective Ed Brown said.

A passer-by found the body of James Charles Turch, 45, of the 2300 block of East Fayette Street, about 5 a.m. Thursday.

Also charged with first-degree murder is Anthony Fields, 15, of the 300 block of South Madeira Street, arrested Friday.
