Services for George H. Spencer-Strong, retired vice president and director of research for the Pemco Corp., will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the chapel of the Charlestown Retirement Community, 715 Maiden Choice Lane, Arbutus.
Dr. Spencer-Strong, who was 85 and moved from Homeland to Charlestown four years ago, died Friday in his sleep.
He retired in 1971 after 37 years with the Baltimore producer of ceramic materials, which became part of the Glidden Co. and then the SCM Corp. and is now part of the Mobay Corp. A native TTC of Sandusky, Ohio, he earned bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in ceramic engineering from Ohio State University. He wrote or co-wrote more than 75 professional papers.
He was named a distinguished alumnus by the College of Engineering at Ohio State, received an award of merit from the American Society for Testing and Materials and was a member of the Sigma Xi and Keramos honorary societies.
