Annapolis-Bowie is 1 of 5 AAA finalists

June 27, 1991

A bid to put a Class AAA expansion baseball team in the Annapolis-Bowie area has survived the latest cut, which narrowed the field of candidates to five.

With Annapolis-Bowie is Birmingham, Ala., Charlotte, N.C., Tulsa, Okla., and Ottawa. The two franchises will be awarded at a meeting of Class AAA owners in September.

The Annapolis-Bowie bid is being led by Columbia developer Peter Kirk, a partner in Maryland Baseball Partnership. The group owns the state's other minor-league teams -- the Class A Frederick Keys and Class AA Hagerstown Suns.
