Sewer Pipes To Be Checked

The Department of Utilities will be conducting smoke testing in the Linthicum area, bordered by Patapsco River to the north, Andover Road/Cabin Branch Creek to the south, Route 895 to the east, and West Nursery Road to the west, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through August 31.

Technicians will place smoke blowers on the manholes, forcing smoke into the sewer lines and observing where it escapes. The smoke should escape from the roof vents of each house.

Fliers describing the test will be delivered to each house in theaffected area at least 48 hours before starting.

The survey aids the department in evaluating the condition of the sanitary sewer system by identifying defects in the piping that could allow rain or groundwater into the system. This study will also check the condition of the sanitary piping in each house.
