Two Arrested After Mailboxes Vandalized

Two Columbia residents were arrested Thursday on property destruction charges after police found 11 vandalized mailboxes along Savage Guilford Road, county police said.

Police said both suspects, a 17-year-old boy and Larry J. Orr, 18, of the 7000 block of Deepage Drive, were charged with 11 counts of malicious destruction of property. Theboxes were smashed apart with a baseball bat, police said.

Both were arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. in the 8000 block ofSavage Guilford Road in Savage, a short distance from where the mailboxes had been destroyed, police said. The juvenile suspect admitted to smashing the boxes, police said.

Orr, who had been driving a truck, also was charged with drunken driving.

The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents, and Orr was released on unspecified bail from the Howard County Detention Center.

10300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway: June 17, a 1990 Ford minibus was reported stolen at 8:30 a.m. from the parking lot of The Mall in Columbia.

8800 block of Tamar Drive: June 17, several piecesof electronic equipment were stolen sometime before 10 p.m. from an apartment that was entered through a sliding glass door.

10500 block of Faulkner Ridge Circle: June 16, a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier was reported stolen at 3:30 a.m. from a residential area.

5800 block ofThunder Hill Road: June 15, a 1990 Chevrolet Beretta was reported stolen at 12 p.m. from a residential neighborhood.

6200 block of Blue Dart: June 15, several pieces of camera equipment were stolen sometime before 11:55 p.m. from a home entered through a rear basement door.

7000 block of Deepage Drive: June 14, a videocassette recorder was reported stolen at 5:30 p.m. from a home entered through an unlocked rear sliding glass door.

3200 block of Wheaton Way: June 14, a 1986 Toyota Camry was stolen sometime before 11:55 p.m. from an apartment complex parking lot.

3100 block of Wheaton Way: June 14, a 1991 Hyundai Sonata was stolen sometime before 11:55 p.m. from an apartment complex parking lot. Another Hyundai Sonata was reported stolen at approximately the same time in nearby apartment complex lot.

3200 block of Birchmede Drive: June 14, a 1986 Mazda 626 automobile was reported stolen at 11:50 p.m. from a residential area.

5100 block of Montgomery Road: June 14, an unspecified amountof cash was stolen sometime before 11:55 p.m. from a home entered through an unlocked second-floor window.

3700 block of St. John's Lane: June 14, someone attempting to break into a home at 1 p.m. was scared off by a burglar alarm.
