Summer School Begins

The Howard County Public School System Summer Program will begin Tuesday at the following locations:

* Atholton High School will offeran elementary and middle school program until July 19.

* Atholton High School will offer a high school program until Aug. 16.

* Harper's Choice Middle School will offer a physical development clinic until Aug. 2.

* Cedar Lane School will offer a Cedar Lane Program and Early Beginnings until Aug. 2.

TODDLERS REGISTER

All kindergartners requiring bus transportation must be registered at their home school byAug. 15. Bus service for the first two weeks of school will not be guaranteed for students registered after that date.

Children must be 5 years old on or before this Dec. 31 to be eligible for entrance into kindergarten for the school year.

Children are also required to have primary immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, measles (rubeola), and German measles (rubella).

Parents should enroll their children at the school serving the communityin which they reside. They should bring the child's birth certificate and evidence of immunization.

FOR SPECIAL ED STUDENTS

The countypublic school system provides extended school-year services to eligible students who receive special education services.

The services are provided for students exhibiting the need for special education, related services or both beyond the school year to prevent regression.

HELP FOR YOUNG STUDENTS

The HelpingHands Summer Program for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 1 to Aug. 8, at Phelps Luck Elementary School.

Extended care is available.

The program is designed to supplement summer school programs and recreational and day-care activities.

Courses offeredinclude language arts, mathematics, conversational Spanish for beginners, hands-on science, computerknow-how, math for problem solvers, African-American history, language enrichment and sports.

The fee is $400. A payment schedule is available on request. There is also a $20 swimming fee.
