Boston Red Sox -- Extended the working agreement with the city of Winter Haven as their spring training site through 1992.

Chicago White Sox -- Recalled P Wayne Edwards from Class AAA Vancouver. Optioned OF Warren Newson to Vancouver.

Cincinnati Reds -- Placed P Jose Rijo (chipped bone in right ankle) on the 15-day DL. Recalled P Tim Layana (3-1, 2.59 ERA at Class AAA Nashville).

Seattle Mariners -- Signed P Sean Rees and assigned him to Class A San Bernardino.

Texas Rangers -- Signed OF Billy Moore and assigned him to Class AAA Oklahoma City. Reassigned OF Kevin Belcher from Oklahoma City to Class AA Tulsa.


Los Angeles Clippers -- Requested waivers on Southwestern grad F/C Ken Bannister (2.4 ppg. in 1990-91) for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

Miami Heat -- Signed Rony Seikaly to a multiyear contract extension that will make him the fourth highest-paid center in the NBA.


Arkansas -- Dismissed freshman Derrick Dodson from football team after his arrest yesterday on charges of rape and burglary.

Central Connecticut State -- Announced the resignation of Mike Brown, men's basketball coach, to become an assistant basketball coach at Seton Hall.

Fulton-Montgomery CC -- Announced the resignation of Dan Jarvis, men's basketball coach.

Sam Houston State -- Named Vance Pickard head trainer.

Texas Tech -- Announced the resignation of Jarvis Scott, women's track and cross county coach.


Green Bay Packers -- Signed LB Reggie Burnette and WR Dempsey Norman. Agreed to terms with LB Dean Witkowski and OT Steve Gabbard.

Houston Oilers -- Waived WR Richard Johnson. Signed WR Eric Brown and OL Sheldon Haliburton.


St. Louis Blues -- Announced the retirement of 17-year veteran D Harold Snepsts and named him coach of IHL Peoria. Bob Plager, IHL Coach of the Year, will concentrate on player-development with St. Louis.

San Jose Sharks -- Named Bob Murdoch associate coach.

Washington Capitals -- Acquired D Shawn Chambers (1 goal, 3 assists) from the Minnesota North Stars for LW Steve Maltais (36, 43 with Baltimore) and C Trent Klatt (played in juniors). Acquired LW Randy Burridge (15, 13) from the Boston Bruins for RW Steve Leach (11, 19). Selected Brown junior D Mike Brewer (son of former NHL D Carl Brewer) in supplemental draft.


Figueras -- Spanish second-division club purchased the contract of MF Tab Ramos, one of the top American players, for $250,000 from the United States Soccer Federation.
