June 19, 1991|By Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

After a sharp decline in the late '80s, the number of Americans who are dieting has leveled off, according to a 1991 survey by the Calorie Control Council, an association of manufacturers of low-calorie diet foods and beverages.

Previous surveys showed the number of dieters dropped between 1986 and 1989 from 65 million to 48 million. And in 1991, it's holding steady at 48 million.
