Westinghouse Electronic Systems Group has appointed Kenneth A. Jones general manager of the newly established Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence Logistics Support Division. He will oversee all logistics support activities required by the Electronic Warfare, Space, Airborne Early Warning Systems and Communications divisions. His unit will also continue to provide logistics support for the company's anti-submarine warfare business segment. First National Bank of Maryland has appointed William F. Oppitz vice president in the bank's Northeastern Maryland region. He oversees an extensive commercial loan portfolio. David A. Jones, a certified public accountant, has merged his practice with Cardoni & Co. P.A., which remains the name of the Columbia-based firm. Jones, who was formerly with Jones and Foster, specializes in corporate tax as well as financial consulting for construction contractors. CB Commercial Real Estate Group Inc. has promoted Steven H. Gassaway to vice president, Baltimore brokerage services location.

* Marian Ayres Realty Inc. is merging with O'Conor, Piper & Flynn. Founders Marian and Carolyn Ayres and their 11 sales associates are joining the White Marsh sales office. David C. Mahoney has joined Phillips Publishing Inc. in Potomac as vice president in the Consumer Publishing Division, which is responsible for publications such as the Retirement Letter and International Gold Report. Previously he was a consultant with Bain & Co. in Boston and before that a manager and supervisor for McCormick & Co.

Sales

Suzanne Weintraub has joined Flowers by Chris, a Baltimore florist, as director of sales and marketing.

* Thulman Eastern Corp., a distributor and manufacturer of fireplace products, has appointed as sales representatives Kathy Fatula, Kenneth Backus and Warren Rothouse.

* Mike Guercio has been named product manager for the Industrial Manufacturing Division of Blind Industries and Services of Maryland. He is responsible for increasing the sales throughout Maryland of paper writing pads, disposable wash cloths and mops. His 20 years of experience includes work for Westinghouse and Eastern Stainless Steel.

Environmental management

Jonathan Mattes has joined the Annapolis office of Avendt Environmental as project manager, geology. Previously he was a senior project manager/geologist with the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Non-profits

The United Way of Central Maryland has named Robert M. Turberville director of major employee groups. He is responsible for general internal management of the Proviate Sector Campaign Division as well as development of campaign planning and analysis. Previously he was campaign director for United Way Inc. in a California community.

Evita Sherman-Dixon has been named director of government campaigns/foundation development. She is responsible for managing public sector campaigns and developing increased charitable giving among foundations.
