Darling gets his first victory in 37 days Mets top Reds, 10-6

June 18, 1991

NEW YORK -- Howard Johnson and Hubie Brooks hit two-run homers and Ron Darling won for the first time in 37 days as the New York Mets held on to beat the Cincinnati Reds, 10-6, last night.

It was hardly an artistic success for either team, as the Mets squandered much of a 10-1 lead and the Reds made three errors.

Darling (3-4), who last won on May 11, got off to a smooth start but finished by allowing three runs and seven hits in six innings. Doug Simons relieved and helped the Reds get back into the game by giving up three runs in the seventh.
