Merry-Go-Round Enterprises Inc. won the Capital Region Emerging Company Award from the Maryland and Washington Chapters of the Association for Corporate Growth.

SmithMead & Goldberg, a Baltimore-based public relations agency, won an award of excellence from the International Association of Business Communicators for a campaign produced for the International Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency in Silver Spring.

Robert E. Meehan was named Man of the Year by the Maryland Motor Truck Association Inc. Mr. Meehan is president of WHITGMC Trucks of Baltimore and association secretary.

Adams Sandler Inc. won a Best in Maryland award from the Maryland Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

George V. McGowan and William H. Cowie Jr. won the distinguished citizen award from the Baltimore Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. McGowan is chairman of the board and CEO of Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. Mr. Cowie is the retired president and CEO of Signet Bank/Maryland.

Rita St. Clair, owner of Rita St. Clair Associates Inc. in Baltimore, was named one of eight jurors for an international design competition to be held in Osaka, Japan, next month by the Japan Design Foundation.

Howard Bradford Lyman received a certificate of honor from the Maryland Association of Higher Education. Dr. Lyman is associate professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Community College of Baltimore.

Conference of State Bank Supervisors named Margie H. Muller chairman-elect. Ms. Muller is Maryland Bank commissioner.

Maryland Athletic Trainers Association elected Martin B. Sataloff president, Paul S. Welliver vice president and Jonathan B. Ferber secretary-treasurer.

National Duckpin Bowling Congress elected William J. Hunt Jr. president, Jimmie Allison vice president and Sharon Williams treasurer.

Open for business

Interior Transitions Inc. opened in the Twin Knolls ProfessionaCenter in Columbia. Jane Scott is president and construction/tenant coordinator.

Rack Room Shoes, based in North Carolina, opened at Annapolis Harbour Center at Route 2 and Patuxent Boulevard.

Standard Supplies Inc., a regional contractor and industrial supply company, is opening an Edgewood branch this month. Scott Ringer was named manager.

Kids Mart, a California-based retail chain, opened at Annapolis Harbour Center.

The Maids opened a residential cleaning franchise in Baltimore at 9533 Belair Road. Christa and Elizabeth Payne head the company.

Kilsby-Roberts, a Brea, Calif.-based distributor of tubing and specialty bars, opened a service center in the Baltimore Commons Industrial Park.

Insurance Medical Reporter Inc.

opened a paramedical insurance examination company at 711 W. 40th St., Suite 314, in Baltimore. Hannah O. Sanders is branch director.

Annie Sez and Bed Bath & Beyond opened at Annapolis Harbour Center, a development by Lerner Enterprises of North Bethesda.

Hess and Associates opened a communications company at 6704 White Stone Road in Meadows Business Park in Baltimore. The company, with Steve Hess as president, specializes in producing publications.
