PICK OF THE WEEK: If you go to see the band Savannah at the Ocean Club tonight, relax and have a good time. That's what the Norfolk, Va.-based, five-member band promises.

"We're a party band," drummer Butch Miller said. "We don't like the name variety band. It conjures up images of tuxedos and bands that play at weddings."

Savannah has fans from ages 5 to 70, but most of the people in the nightclub audiences are 25 to 45, Mr. Miller said. The band plays just about everything, including classic rock and roll, Motown, contemporary music, Top 40 and rap.

"There isn't anything we're afraid to do," Mr. Miller said. "We have a real good attitude. We thoroughly enjoy what we do, and we don't drink while we play. We don't mix alcohol with our performances."

Savannah has been performing in Ocean City for about eight years and plays at the Ocean Club, on the beach at 49th Street, several times each summer. The band will be there tonight from 9:30 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. and will return there in mid-July.

"A lot of people come back to see us because of the variety of music. The four front men aren't afraid to jump off the stage and mingle with people. We're not afraid to laugh at ourselves," Mr. Miller said.

DON'T LOOK BACK . . . BUT: The Coasters, known for such '50s hits as "Yakety Yak" and "Along Came Jones," will be at Elwood's Rib House in West Ocean City Wednesday and Thursday. Shows are 10 p.m. and midnight, and tickets are $12. Call 289-1400.

FRONTIER DAYS: Frontier Town Theme Park, resembling a Western town around 1860, is open for the season. Located on Route 611, on the way to Assateague, Frontier Town has gunfights, can-can dancers, bank robberies and stage coach rides. It's open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Labor Day. Call 289-7877.

NOSE TO NOSE: Post time is 7:20 p.m. Wednesdays to Fridays at Delmarva Downs race track on Route 589 about four miles west of Ocean City. On Sundays, post time is 6:20 p.m. Enjoy live races and simulcasts from Rosecroft in Oxon Hill.
