GIBBY'S SEAFOOD 2318 York Road, Timonium. Open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m Sundays. Call 561-5225. Mention crab cakes and the first word that comes to mind is pricey. Not so at Gibby's Seafood, a carryout on York Road a few blocks from the Timonium Fairgrounds.

Two crab cakes, heavy with crab, cost you $7.95, and with that you get your choice of two side dishes, among them tomato-cucumber salad, macaroni shrimp salad, potato salad or cole slaw. Portions are more than ample.

Gibby's Seafood belongs to the people who own Gibby's Restaurant on Padonia Road, west of York Road. It used to be called Mulligan's. Under any name, the restaurant is elegant; the carryout is less so. There is no place to eat in. You order and carry out. But the service is prompt and the help is gracious.

L You can call and order, or you can simply drop in and order.

The seafood platter, which consists of fish, scallops, shrimp and a crab cake, goes for $8.95. Six fried shrimp cost $6.95, and if your tastes run to oysters, a portion of fried oysters costs $5.95.

If you prefer the cold platters, there is shrimp salad ($5.95), tuna salad ($4.50), shrimp and tuna combination ($6.95) or a seafood salad platter ($4.95).

Gibby's specialty is hot steamed shrimp, and there is only an eight-minute wait from the time you place your order. The carryout also has live and steamed crabs, fresh fish, clams, oysters, shrimp and lobster. All you have to do is ask.
