NEW YORK -- Julie Jenkins of Urbana, Ill., America's top-ranked women's 800-meter runner, was forced to miss her opening heat yesterday at the USA/Mobil Championships after she was hit by a minivan outside her hotel in midtown Manhattan.
"After the van stopped and I got untangled, we went into the hotel," Jenkins said. "They called an ambulance, but I didn't want to wait for it. I was sore, but I've really been looking forward to this meet, so I hopped on the next shuttle bus and came to the track."
