Speeder killed in 4-car accident

June 13, 1991

A 16-year-old youth was killed yesterday afternoon when a Toyota he was driving at high speed ran out of control on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring and triggered a four-vehicle accident, Montgomery County police said.

The victim, Mark Robert Jasper of Gaithersburg, died at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda a short time after the 4 p.m. accident.

Police said the youth was heading south on New Hampshire at a high rate of speed when he swerved to the right to pass a southbound Honda. His car struck the right curb and swerved across three southbound lanes, striking a Dodge, colliding with the concrete median and becoming airborne.

The Toyota landed in the northbound lanes and collided with a school bus carrying no children, while the Dodge skidding from the first collision was struck by the Honda, police said.

The other three drivers and an adult aide riding on the bus all were treated for minor injuries, police said.
