Here are summaries of some recent Computing product reviews. Each product is rated on a scale of one to four, with one computer indicating poor and four indicating excellent:

System 7.0, for Macintoshes with at least 2 megabytes of RAM and a hard disk drive. A 68030 or equivalent microprocessor is required to use the virtual memory feature. $99.95. From Apple ++ Computer Inc., 20525 Mariani Ave., Cupertino, Calif. 95014. (408) 996-1010.

System 7.0 is the latest version of the Macintosh's fundamental software. 7.0 looks and acts a lot like the older system software, so anyone with Mac experience -- and at least 2 megabytes of memory in his or her Mac -- will be able to use it immediately. The immediate drawback is that 7.0 isn't compatible with all Mac software. The reason to look forward to System 8 is that 7.0 doesn't have real multitasking.

Ease of use: 4 computers

These are reviews of shareware programs for IBM and #i compatible computers.)

Whiskers. Now that we have Windows and a mouse, we need to complicate our lives further with Windows utilities. Whiskers allows you to use your mouse's right button as an enter key. This means that you don't have to move the mouse around to the default "OK" box in Windows. You simply click the right button, and it's as if the enter key had been hit. To register, send $15 to Numbers Co., Rt. 1, Box 59A, Oroville, Wash. 98844.

GIST-PLUS. Faithful readers know that we have much admiration for accountants. They make our days pass like quicksand and cause us to wake up screaming at 2 a.m. Yet we have a fascination for the software they use. General Invoice Sales Tracker Plus (GIST) is an awfully friendly program, as billing programs go, that tracks your sales, figures your sales tax, reminds you of delinquent payments, and even prints invoices ++ and labels.

you have a small business, and you need invoices and you need to track your income -- and your employees are not computer whizzes -- you might want to give GIST a try. It will show the total a customer has spent with your firm, print directories of your customers, with pertinent information about them, and handle 725,000 invoices and customer records.

You'll need DOS 3.0 or higher; a hard disk is recommended. Once you've tried GIST, you can register it by sending $69 to Bob Keber, Typeright Corp., 336 Swain Blvd., Lake Worth, Fla. 33463-3342.
