Area Youths Track Down Some Glory

Emmorton's Gliders Rule Numerous Events

Several Harford youth track and field athletes fared well during thethird annual Harford County Gliders Invitational Tournament, held last weekend at C. Milton Wright High School.

The Gliders, affiliated with the Emmorton Recreation Council, competed against the APG Bombers and the Joppatowne Rec Council, as well as several teams from outside the county.

In the boys 15-16 age group, Joe Rodriguez of APG took first in the 200-meter -- (30.84 seconds). Jason Glover of the Gliders took first in the discus throw (61 feet, 1 inch) and the shot put (21-10 1/2).

In the girls 15-16 division, Sarah Thomas of the Gliders took first in the shot put (28-8 1/2) and the discus (85-1).

In the girls13-14 age group, Beth Rappold of the Gliders took first in the 3,000run (13:51) and the high jump (4-3 1/2). Erin Ferriter of the Gliders took first in the long jump (13-9 1/2). Becky Gerhart of the Gliders took first in the 1,600 run (6:27).

In 13-14 boys action, NavadaCross of APG took first in the 100 -- (13.32) and the 400 (1:01).

Brad Hulbert of the Gliders took first in the high jump (5-2). Eric Benjamin took first in the 1,600 run (5:43).
