MURDER TRY: Northeastern District -- Police today were seeking an escapee from the state Division of Correction pre-release center on Greenmount Avenue in connection with the attempted murder of a man in a house in the 3300 block of E. Lake Ave. Police said Alan Burch, 22, of that block, was in another house on the block yesterday when he became involved in a fight with Donald Thomas, 29, a resident of the pre-release center in the 900 block of Greenmount Ave. Police said that during the fight, Burch was stabbed in the jaw with a knife and the blade broke off inside his mouth. Police said Thomas escaped and Burch was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition today. In addition to attempted murder, attempted maiming and a deadly weapon charge, police said, Thomas also was charged with escaping from the center where he was serving a term for arson and attempted murder. The date of Thomas' escape was not immediately known.

THEFT: Central District -- Piter Van Deursen, of the 2100 block of Bolton St., reported that someone stole his $800 multispeed bike Tuesday evening after he left it outside his home.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Angela Parker, of the 1100 block of Mosher St., reported she was in the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Ave. Tuesday evening when a man came up behind her and stole her purse, which contained cash and property valued at more than $400.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Monte Ingram, 37, of the 400 block of Watty Court, told police he was assaulted late Tuesday night near his home by a woman with a knife who robbed him of property valued at $70.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Police reported that Keith Kerman, of the 700 block of Cathedral St., was in the 300 block of N. Charles St. early yesterday when two men, one with a handgun, robbed him of more than $150.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Eli Velder, of the 2100 block of Sulgrave Ave., reported he was robbed of nearly $100 by two men, one with a handgun, as he walked in the first block of E. Madison St. around 1 a.m. yesterday.

BURGLARY: Central District -- Employees of George's One Hour Martinizing, a dry cleaners in the 100 block of N. Howard St., reported that someone broke into the business through a window early yesterday and stole property valued at more than $1,400.

ROBBERY: Central District -- William Johnson, of the 1200 block of Etting St., reported he was in the 1600 block of Druid Hill Ave. early yesterday when he was robbed of $40 by a man with a handgun.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Michelle Boyer, of the 1600 block of N. Calvert St., told police she was walking in the 1200 block of Maryland Ave. shortly after 5 a.m. yesterday when a man with a knife shoved her into the stairwell of a building and robbed her of $5. Boyer told police the man who robbed her was the same person who engaged her in conversation while she watched firefighters battle a one-alarm fire at a pizza shop in the 1300 block of N. Charles St. several minutes earlier.

BURGLARY: Central District -- A resident of the 800 block of George St. reported that someone entered her home between June 1 and yesterday and stole an oil painting valued at $2,000. The occupant told police the property was stolen after she was forced to move out of her home because of a fire June 1.

KNOCK & ROB: Central District -- Clifford Jones, of the 1000 block of N. Calvert St., told police that upon answering a knock at his door yesterday afternoon, he was attacked by a man who forced him back inside his house and robbed him of property valued at nearly $400.

BURGLARY: Central District -- A resident of the 2300 block of Linden Ave. reported that someone broke into his basement apartment yesterday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. while he was out and stole a 19-inch TV valued at $300.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Mattie Boston, of the 1000 block of W. Fayette St., reported she was walking near her home when a man attacked her from behind, knocked her to the ground and stole her purse, containing cash and property of undetermined value.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Lawrence McNeil, of the 3800 block of Harlem Ave., reported he was in the 2700 block of W. Franklin St. when he was forced into a car by a man and two women who robbed him at gunpoint of a small sum of money before he was freed.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Police reported that Walter Thomas, of the 700 block of N. Carrollton Ave., was in the 900 block of N. Mount St. when a man robbed him of nearly $200.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Officials of the New Bethel Apostolic Church in the 500 block of N. Carrollton Ave. reported that someone broke into the building over the weekend and stole several pieces of furniture, a telephone and other items, all valued at nearly $1,100.
