Bays preview

May 31, 1991|By Sandra McKee

* WHEN: Tomorrow, 8:05 p.m.

* WHERE: University of South Florida.

* OUTLOOK: The Bays put their 4-0 record on the line in a rematch of last week's 3-0 victory over the Rowdies, who are 1-3.

It was goalkeeper Steve Powers' first shutout of the season and made Bays coach Gary Hindley happy, as the team made great defensive strides.

"Overall, that game was the best 90 minutes we have played in this young season," Hindley said, "especially when you consider the talent Tampa Bay has."

For that reason, said the coach, he expects tomorrow's rematch "to be very intense."

The Bays may have to play a lot harder, given they will be without U.S. National team members Desmond Armstrong, Bruce Murray and Jeff Agoos, who will be playing against Ireland in Foxboro, Mass. But forward Phillip Gyau, who joined the Bays last week, will be available. The status of midfielder Michael Brady (strained left calf muscle) is day-to-day.
