A & L Shatto Inc., a local engineering and management firm, has beenselected by the U.S. Army Chemical Research Development and Engineering Center, Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground, to provide studies and technical management support for the next three years.

Thecontract calls for 45 years of professional engineering, scientific and management services in the areas of program planning, systems analysis, technology assessment and transfer, and preparing technical reports and computer data bases. This is the third major Army command that has selected the young Bel Air company known for its technical credentials in environmental and hazardous materials management.

The previous contracts involved the Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency under the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center under the Army Health Services Command. In addition to Department of Defense work, the firm has supported several largecommercial companies, including Lockheed, IBM and ARCO, as well as Maryland industrial clients needing help with pollution control and worker protection.

The firm was founded in 1988 by Allen W. Shatto to provide solutions to environmental and hazardous materials problems.

FALLSTON ACCREDITED

Fallston General Hospital and its Home Health Agency have both received three-year accreditations from the Joint Commission on accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a result of their compliance with JCAHO's nationally recognized health-care standards.

The hospital's accreditation follows a rigorous two-day on-site survey that took place last February. The in-depth survey evaluated the quality of patient care, the safety of the environment in which that care is delivered and managerial and administrative efficiency.

The accreditation of the Home Health Agency was awarded after a thorough two-day survey that included visits in the field with workers and patients, review of management and administrative practices and the examination of medical records.

Founded in 1951, JCAHO is anon-profit organization which evaluates and accredits more than 5,400 hospitals and more than 3,200 other healthcare programs nationwide.

The three-year accreditation certificate is the highest level of accreditation JCAHO awards to hospitals.

MARTINO IS TOP DEALER

Michael G. Martino of Village Volvo in Bel Air is among the 36 dealers throughout North America who have been selected to receive the Dealer of Excellence Award for outstanding professional achievement and dedicated service to Volvo customers.

Village Volvo was cited for the significant accomplishments of its sales, service and parts departments. Each was judged as out

standing in its 1990 performance.

Martino will receive a specially made Kosta Boda crystal inscribed withthe Dealer of Excellence emblem at Volvo's Annual Dealer Meeting, scheduled for October in Orlando, Fla.

Martino and his wife, Diane, live in Fallston with their two children.

MERRY-GO-ROUND UP

Merry-Go-Round Enterprises Inc., headquartered in Joppa, announced that sales for the four-week period ending May 4, increased approximately 25 percent to $50.3 million from $40.4 million in the corresponding period in April 1990. Same store sales for April 1991 increase approximately 6 percent.

Same store sales for March and April combined increased 13 percent in 1991.

Sales for the 13-week period ending May 4, increase 30 percent to $157 million from $120.9 million in the corresponding 13-week period a year ago. Same store sales for the 13-weekperiod increased 12 percent.

Same store sales for the four-week period in April 1990 increased 54 percent. Same store sales for the 13-week period in 1990 increased 42 percent.

Merry-Go-Round Enterprises Inc. is specialty apparel chain selling contemporary fashions foryoung men and women in more than 750 retail stores in 38 states.
