Man Killed After Auto Hits Telephone Pole

Dennis T. Houck, 25, of Aberdeen, was killed Thursday when the car he was driving crashed into a telephone pole in Churchville, state police at Benson said.

The crash occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Route 136 near Deer Creek Road, police said.

Houck was driving a 1975 Ford Granada north on Route 136 when he tried to pass a van driven by Mark B. Holecheck, 35, of Pylesville ina no-passing zone, police said.

Houck's car sideswiped the van asit crossed the center lane, police said. The car then traveled alongthe shoulder and crashed into the pole.

Houck was flown to the University of Maryland's Shock-Trauma Unit in Baltimore, where he died of head injuries at about 2:15 a.m., a hospital spokesman said. Holecheck was not injured.

Houck is the ninth person to be killed in a traffic accident in Harford County this year.


Randall S. Hoyns, 29, of Pylesville, is in critical condition at the Shock Trauma Unit in Baltimore following a one-vehicle accident in Norrisville Thursday.

Hoyns was traveling north on Norrisville Road near Dry Branch Road at 1:20 a.m. when his 1987 Nissan Pathfinder ran off the east side of the road and turned onto its side, police said.

The vehicle skidded across the roadway while still on its side and then rolled over onto the west side of theroad, police said.
