CONCORD, N.C. — Allison takes The Winston

CONCORD, N.C. -- Davey Allison led from start to finish yesterday and took home $325,000 by winning The Winston, NASCAR's rich all-star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Allison, 30, started from the pole and finished first in the opening 50-lap segment and again in the final 20-lap shootout around the 1.5-mile superspeedway.

The Winston, in its seventh year, does not count in the Winston Cup Series points standings but that doesn't diminish the $875,000 purse.

Considered a "fan's race" by NASCAR officials, The Winston FTC features the 17 drivers who won a Winston Cup race during the last year and the three top finishers in the preliminary Winston Open.
