Charlie Briggs, assistant professional at Caves Valley Golf Club, had his round divided in half by an hour rain delay, but handled the dry-wet conditions almost equally well in shooting a 5-under-par 33-3366 in a Middle Atlantic Professional Golfers' Association pro-am tournament at Chestnut Ridge Country Club yesterday.
In winning his first pro-am, Briggs, 29, shot the last 14 holes in 6-under, after making his only bogey at No. 13, his fourth hole. Three of his birdies were two-putt efforts on par-5s, and the other three were on putts inside 10 feet.
A birdie at No. 9, his last hole, enabled Briggs to cut John Huber, Glen Barrett and Brian Lehnhard out of a share of first, as they finished with 67s.
