-- Suspended Cleveland OF Albert Belle for one week for throwing a ball at a fan during Saturday's game against California. Belle will appeal the suspension.

New York Mets -- Activated IF Gregg Jefferies (rib cage), from the 15-day disabled list. SS Kevin Elster (groin problem) was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 6.

New York Yankees -- Placed OF Scott Lusader on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12. Purchased the contract of OF Pat Sheridan from Columbus of the IL.

Fordham -- Named Chris Wielgus women's basketball coach.

St. Peter's -- Named Roy Miller football coach.
