Robert H. Puepke, 92, was neighborhood grocer

Robert H. Puepke, a neighborhood grocer, died yesterday of cancer at Maryland General Hospital. He was 92.

Services for Mr. Puepke will be held at noon Wednesday at the Burgee-Henss funeral establishment, 3631 Falls Road.

A native of Baltimore, Mr. Puepke and his wife of 66 years, the former Sophie Todd, opened their grocery store on the corner of 27th Street and Hampden Avenue in 1924.

They closed the store in 1975 after more than 50 years of operation.

After closing the business, the Puepkes continued to pursue their lifelong interest in horse racing by frequenting area race tracks.

They also were fond of traveling.

Mr. Puepke was a lifelong fan of the Colts and Orioles, holding season tickets for both clubs at one time or another.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Puepke is survived by two nephews and two nieces.
