Precious Pieces

May 12, 1991|By YOLANDA GARFIELD

THE EARTHY WARMTH OF HAND-THROWN POTTERY joins with precious metals to achieve a new level of design refinement. Artisan and production potter Tatiana creates completely functional, oven-to-table hand-thrown stoneware, including full sets of dinnerware and accent pieces. Each piece is an example of her unique method of introducing platinum and 24-karat gold onto stoneware pottery.

The richness of the look and purity of form and texture have attracted the attention of international designers. Tatiana's pieces now appear in important collections in Germany and Japan, with much of the production commissioned in advance. However her work may be seen in her Glenelg crafts shop, appropriately named Tatiana. Prices for the pieces range from $12 to more than $1,000, with a centerpiece bowl averaging just uunder $200.
