Around the house

* Put away winter clothing. Make sure garments have been cleaned because soil attracts insects; beverage and food stains are especially difficult to remove from fabrics after several months of storage.

* Remove crayon for walls. Rub white toothpast onto a damp cloth and apply to spot until it fades away.

* Prepare for hot weather and check air conditioner. Dust exposed surfaces and oil. Replace dirty filters. If you have central air conditioning, reset dampers and see that air inlets and outlets are free from obstruction. Replace filters and lubricate.

In the garden

* Protect vegetable gardens from wild creatures by erecting a chicken wire fence 2 feet high. Make sure the fence bottom is flush to the ground.
