Chicago Cubs -- Optioned C Erik Pappas (.167 in 12 AB) to Class AAA Iowa. Recalled P Steve Wilson from Iowa.

Houston Astros -- Announced that P Mike Scott (0-2, 12.86 ERA in 2 starts; shoulder tendinitis) will not work out for at least another month. Scott has been on DL since April 14.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Announced that P Ron Robinson (0-1, 6.23 ERA) has bone spur in right elbow, a condition that might require a fourth operation in past 4 years. Announced that P Dan Plesac (0-1, 4.82; sidelined since April 27 with tendinitis but not on DL) threw for 6 minutes and reported no pain. Announced that OF Candy Maldonado (.200 in 5 AB; on DL since April 11 with stress fracture of left foot) was told by doctor to rest at least 3 more weeks.

New York Mets -- Claimed P Mark Dewey on waivers from San Francisco Giants. Assigned Dewey to Class AAA Tidewater.

New York Yankees -- Placed P Andy Hawkins (0-2, 9.95) on waivers for purpose of giving him unconditional release. Purchased contract of P Steve Howe from Class AAA Columbus.

Milwaukee Bucks -- Announced that F Brad Lohaus (5.3 ppg2.7 rpg) underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in left knee.

Confederation of North, Central American and Carribean Association Football -- Regional soccer governing body for North and Central America and Caribbean said it is moving its Nations Cup tournament from Mexico to Los Angeles and Pasadena, Calif., and renaming it CONCACAF Gold Cup. Play will be June 28-July 7.

AC Milan -- Announced that star F Ruud Gullit (Netherlands captain) will have arthroscopic surgery on injured right knee.
