Returning To The Gulf

WESTMINSTER — 3rd Mate Michael James Grogan, a Merchant Marines officer on the Navy supply ship Spica, will be returning to the Persian Gulf in July.

The son of Dennis and Dottie Grogan, formerly of here, was sent to the Middle East in October.

His ship left for the Philippines in March. They will remain there for four months and then return to the gulf in July.

Grogan, whoattended St. John's Catholic School, is the brother of Kelly Grogan Hollenbaugh of here.

SOLDIER RETURNS HOME

WESTMINSTER -- When Army Cpl. Jim Evans came home from the Persian Gulf to see his parents in time for Easter, he brought with him souvenirs of the war.

During a visit home with his family, Evans displayed a soda bottle with an Arabic label and other items.

Evans was deployed to the Mideast Sept. 14 and returned to Fort Drum, N.Y., where he is stationed, the week before Easter. The 24-year-old soldier brought his wife, Catheryne, and two sons, Brian, 3, and Michael, 4, home to see his family.

The corporal is the son of J. Michael and Mary Evans and brother of Christopher, Johnny and Kathleen.

While in the Persian Gulf, Evans was attached to an air traffic control unit. Most of his time was spent in Saudi Arabia, with a few weeks in Iraq after the cease-fire was declared.
