On the schools

It's your call

May 08, 1991

Almost 71 percent of callers to SUNDIAL think that private industry or universities would do better job of running public schools than would the government. The idea of having private contractors run public schools has been advocated by foundation and tried in some places, and Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke is considering one proposal that would involve two city elementary schools.

Of 285 callers to SUNDIAL, 202 said private industry or universities would operate schools better than the government would, and 83 callers disagreed.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as a scientific public opinion poll would be.
