MIDDLEBURG, Va. -- Two Maryland families went home with trophies from yesterday's Bull Run Hunt point-to-point, the last of Virginia's spring steeplechase races.

Rushwin, owned and trained by Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Pitts Jr. of Monkton and ridden by daughter Helen, won the rider opportunity flat race.

Smart N' Fresh, owned and trained by Mrs. Pitts with Cluvin Ryan of Baltimore, won the first division of the maiden flats, and she also trained Softie Mal, third in the maiden hurdle.

The Conaway family of Howard County had a good day, especially in the pony race. Charlie Conaway III won with Heavenly Discretion in the large pony race and was second with Garfield in the small/medium division. His sister, Kelly, was fourth with Natalie. Their father, Charlie Conaway Jr., was third with Rolin Slew in the fox-hunter timber race.
