Bays preview

May 03, 1991|By Sandra McKee

* WHEN: Tomorrow, 7:30 p.m.

* WHERE: Dean Field, Trenton State College.

* RADIO: WCBM-AM (680); WDCT-AM (1310).

* OUTLOOK: This is the season opener for both teams as the Bays begin defense of their American Professional Soccer League championship. The Bays finished 15-5 in the 1990 regular season. The Spirit (13-7 last season) has added Major Soccer League goalkeeper Chris Vaccaro, and the team was negotiating down to the wire with several U.S. National Team members.

"Although I would have liked the team to have been settled by now, we have been training together for several weeks and we expect to field a strong side," said Spirit coach Dave MacWilliams, a former member of the Blast. "There is no better way to find out where we are than against the defending champs."

The Spirit will be missing defender George Gelnovatch and midfielder Michael Brady, who this season joined the Bays.
