A 2-year-old boy narrowly escaped injury Monday evening when a man armed with an assault rifle fired at least six shots at the boy's parents' car after a traffic dispute.
County police said Lidia Dicke of Glen Burnie was driving her 1988 Ford Bronco at about 7:40 p.m. when she got into an argument with Steven Lawrence Curran, 18, of the 1000 block Genine Drive in Glen Burnie.
Police said Dicke, her son and husband, Philip, followed Curran home to get his license plate number.
Curran went into his home andcame out with a knife, police said. Philip Dicke took the knife fromhim and Curran went back into his home and got an assault rifle.
Police said he fired six or eight shots at the car, hitting the driver's door and shattering a window.
All of the shots went through the door, but missed the child, who was strapped into a car seat in theback seat, police said.
Lidia Dicke screamed that her baby was inthe car and police said Curran stopped shooting.
Police charged Curran with three counts of assault with intent to murder, four countsof carrying a dangerous weapon, four counts of reckless endangerment, three counts of assault and one count of destruction to property.
After police arrived, Curran's father, Earl Curran, became enraged and charged Philip Dicke, police said. Police arrested Earl Curran and charged him with disorderly conduct, assault and resisting arrest.
MAN ASKS DIRECTIONS THEN SNATCHES PURSE
A Bowie woman had her purse snatched Saturday by a man who asked her directions in the Annapolis Mall parking lot.
County police said the robber walked up to thewoman about 4 p.m. and asked directions to Hecht's.
When she turned and pointed, the man grabbed her purse and ran across the parking lot.
He got into in a bright blue Ford Escort and drove away.
Police described the robber as a black man in his 20s, about 5 feet 11inches tall. He was wearing short white pants, a blue and white shirt and a white baseball cap.
