Poly's Holland tourney MVP High school notes

* Poly shared the Riverdale Baptist Baseball Tournament championship, rallying on Matt Holland's game-tying RBI in the seventh inning to gain a 12-12 tie with Gloucester (N.J.) Catholic. The title game was ended by darkness at that point and Holland was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Coach Charlie Sullivan's Engineers had defeated the host school, 2-1, in nine innings in the semifinals, as Holland scored the winning run.

* Gilman defeated McDonogh, 4-3, to win the MSA A Conference tennis championship. McDonogh had won the title four straight years. The Greyhounds last won it in 1986.

* Mount St. Joseph sophomore Steven Dowler has qualified for the 200-yard breaststroke in the YMCA U.S. National Championships, set for the week of June 15 at Orlando, Fla. Qualifiers must surpass the 100th best time nationally from the previous year to be invited.

* Professional shooting instructor Dave Hopla will be the featured clinician for the Mercy Summer Basketball Camp, set for June 17-21 and 24-28 (8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). Girls entering grades 7, 8 and 9 are welcome. Contact Mary Ella Marion (529-4716) for details.

* Broadneck will hold summer camps for ages 9 and above in volleyball (June 18-22), baseball (June 18-22); basketball (June 24-28) and soccer (July 8-12).
